Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Dim Hour is a restaurant discovery app helping you find great food across 17 cities. We built it with a simple philosophy: collect only what we need, never sell your data, and be transparent about how everything works. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have.
1. What We Collect
Automatic collection
- Device ID — A randomly generated identifier used for anonymous session tracking. No account is required to use Dim Hour.
- Location data — Your coordinates, only when you grant permission, to power the "Nearby" restaurant feature.
- Search queries — Questions and prompts you send to the AI concierge so it can respond to you.
Optional collection (only if you choose to sign up)
- Name and email address — Provided during account creation or when saving trips.
- Account credentials — Managed securely through Supabase authentication.
What we do not collect
- Financial or payment information
- Contacts, photos, or other device data
- Advertising identifiers
2. How We Use It
We use the data described above for these purposes only:
- Session continuity — Your device ID lets us maintain your session without requiring an account.
- Restaurant discovery — Location data powers nearby restaurant recommendations across our 17 supported cities.
- AI concierge — Search queries are sent to the Anthropic Claude API so the concierge can answer your questions. These conversations are not stored permanently.
- Trip management — If you provide your name or email, we use it to associate saved trips with your account.
- Service improvement — Aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns help us improve the app.
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
Dim Hour relies on three third-party services to operate. Each has its own privacy practices:
Supabase
Our database and authentication provider. Your account information and app data are stored in Supabase-managed PostgreSQL databases. Supabase processes data in accordance with their privacy policy.
Anthropic
Powers the AI concierge feature via the Claude API. When you use the concierge, your queries are sent to Anthropic for processing. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their privacy policy. Concierge conversations are not stored permanently by Dim Hour.
Netlify
Hosts the Dim Hour web application. Netlify may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) as part of normal web hosting operations. See Netlify's privacy policy for details.
4. Location Data
Dim Hour requests access to your device's location only to provide the "Nearby" restaurant feature. This is entirely optional.
- Location permission is requested through your browser or device's standard permission prompt.
- You can deny or revoke location access at any time through your device settings.
- The app remains fully functional without location access — you can browse restaurants by city instead.
- We do not track your location in the background or build a location history.
5. Data Retention
- Device IDs — Retained for the duration of your active use. Inactive sessions may be purged periodically.
- Account data — Retained until you delete your account or request removal.
- Concierge conversations — Not stored permanently. Query data is used transiently to generate responses and is not retained long-term by Dim Hour.
- Location data — Used in real time to serve nearby results. Not stored on our servers.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction — Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion — Request that we delete your personal data.
- Portability — Receive your data in a portable format.
- Objection — Object to certain types of processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below. We will respond within 30 days.
